Spotlight Author: A.M. Myers

I found A.M. Myers when I first started blogging and A.M. was just debuting her first book, Hopelessly Devoted. I have been with her ever since. Gotta support my home state people. You know gotta rep the 307. Lol. I have loved watching Myers career grow. So I am honestly honored that she agreed to be our Spotlight Author this week. I hope you enjoy getting to know about this MC author.

  1. What drew you to writing about an MC that helps troubled women?

Well, they say write what you know. I wrote my very first book, Hidden Scars, from personal experience and the MC’s role in helping Emma get away from her abusive boyfriend just kind of came along naturally. Plus, at the time that I started the Bayou Devils MC series, I wasn’t interested in writing about a true outlaw MC. I wanted them to be true heroes.

  1. How has the industry changed since you began your career?

It might be easier if you asked how it hasn’t changed! This industry is constantly moving and changing and one of the most important skills for any author is to be flexible and able to adapt as new things get thrown at us.

  1. Out of all your characters, who are your favorites?

Ummm… that’s a little like asking me to choose a favorite child. When I’m in the thick of writing each book, I am completely head over heels with the characters I’m working on but there are a few that stand out to me now that the series is finished. First would be Ali from Hopelessly Devoted because she was the one to kick it all off and I tend to think of her as the matriarch of the club now that I’m working on the Second Generation series. Second, Tate from Every Breath You Take. She is just kick ass and doesn’t take shit from anyone and it’s always so much fun to include her in a scene because you just never know what’s going to come out of her mouth. And finally, Izzy from This Ain’t Love. I’ve been waiting to write her story since I introduced her in Hidden Scars and it was so much fun to immerse myself in who she is and reveal all of the other layers to her.

  1. How did self publishing your first book change your process in writing?

When I wrote my first book, I had no clue what I was doing! I pretty much just opened up a document and word vomited all over the page. Now, I plan so much more carefully, especially with the way I have a story running in the background of my series, it’s essential that everything is meticulously laid out. Before I started writing This Ain’t Love, I sat down and made a massive binder full of information from the original series and the plan for the BDMC: Second Generation series. It took me about a month to do but I think I might have lost my mind without it.

  1. What is the best money you’ve spent on your career?

Good covers, for sure. Once you purchase an exclusive photo from a photographer and pay a designer to make a cover for you, it ends up being pretty spendy but it’s so important to getting sales. As much as everyone says “don’t judge a book by it’s cover”, the truth is that we all do it. It’s what attracts our attention first and for me, it’s worth every penny I spend on them.

  1. What kind of research have you done and how much time do you spend researching your books?

I do quite a bit of research and planning. When I start a new book, I’ll spend a couple weeks planning out each and every scene that’s going into the book. Of course, as I’m writing, it all could change if what I had planned doesn’t feel right to the story anymore and no matter how much research I do beforehand, I will always get tripped up by something at least once a book and have to go back to Google to do more.

  1. Your books have many hard and emotional scenes. What was your hardest scene to write?

For me, the hard and emotional scenes are the easiest to write. I can see it all playing out in my head and my fingers are usually flying across the keyboard when I write those. The scenes I struggle with are the little, everyday scenes. You know, with the cute little character building moments because they can so easily become stale but they are SO IMPORTANT to building a believable romance between the characters. There is nothing I hate more than reading a book and getting to the “I love you” part and thinking to myself “why do they love each other?”

  1. What one thing would you give up to become a better writer?

Sleep and my sanity

  1. Where do you get your inspiration?

Everywhere and anywhere. It’s usually the most random things, honestly, and I’ve got maybe a hundred notes in my phone with possible story ideas and occasionally, I’ll go through those and see if any of those ideas can be fleshed out into full stories. Not everyone is a winner, though.

  1. Are there any secrets from your current work in progress, you can share with your readers?

Not from my current WIP but I can tell you that this new series, BDMC: Second Generation, things are going to get darker and more intense than they did in the original Bayou Devils MC series and I’m so excited to watch how the club handles it all.

Bio:

A.M. Myers lives in Cody, Wyoming – a little town about an hour away from Yellowstone National Park – with her husband and their two boys. She has been writing for most of her life and even had a poem nationally published in the sixth grade but the idea of writing an entire book always seemed so daunting until a certain story got stuck in her head and wouldn’t leave her alone until she started typing. Now, she can’t imagine a time when she won’t be letting all of the stories in her head spill out onto paper.

A.M. Myers writes emotional, gripping romantic suspense novels that will leave you swooning and hanging off the edge of your seat from start until finish. When she is not writing, you can usually find her up in the mountains with her boys, camping, fishing and taking photos of the beautiful landscape she is lucky enough to call home.
