Running the Spark House, a hotel/event space that has been in her family for years, has been Avery Spark’s lifelong dream. After years of working hard and making personal sacrifices, Avery and her two younger sisters have turned the Spark House into the premier destination in Colorado Springs. Avery is living her best life—she works with her sisters and loves every minute of it, she has a great group of friends, and she lives in a fantastic condo with her best friend Declan. She might not have any love in her life, but she's happy.
But everything comes to a screeching halt when Avery is in a car accident, leaving her immobile for weeks. After nearly losing Avery, Declan insists that he will be the one to take care of her while she recovers. However, as Declan becomes Avery’s caretaker, lines begin to blur.
Avery and Declan have been best friends since college and always had an attraction to one another, but when she ended up dating his best friend, Sam, they successfully stamped down any feelings they may have ever had for one another. Now, as Declan and Avery spend more time together, they each begin to wonder what would’ve happened if she'd dated him instead of Sam. What starts as a friend helping out another friend turns into foreplay and, before they realize it, they recognize how deeply they care for one another. But when things get serious their past threatens to destroy everything they have built.

I’ll be honest I have read quite a few books by Helena Hunting so when When Sparks Fly found it’s way to my kindle I expected to be reading a hot and steamy hockey book. What I received couldn’t be further from that thought. I received a book about loss, undiscovered love, friendship, and a lot of personal growth. I found a book that had me invested into Declan and Avery.

Hunting brought her A game and then some to this friends to lovers book. You could see the love from the beginning but the twists and turns are so realistic that this reader felt like she was hanging out with friends. Helena was able to put me in with a group of tight friends, that while we have nothing in common, I truly enjoyed being around and watch their lives unfold.

This story is one that will draw you in and keep you there until the last word. You root for the main characters. The flow is flawless, which as a fan of Hunting’s work, you expect. Her characters show growth, both separately and together. I truly enjoyed When Sparks fly, from beginning to end.

Review: Behind the Flame by Renee Harless

Behind the Flame is my first venture into Renee  Harless’s writing. This is a slow paced love story. Harless builds small towns, like I grew up in. So it’s a world I relate to. Both the main characters have just moved to Carson. I don’t feel like the story would work if it was a quicker pace. Small town are a slower living so the pace makes sense and works. The build up to Ridge and River noticing each other […]

Review: Angel by Kristine Allen

If you are new to Kristine Allen, be prepared to hold on tight for this ride. Allen is known for her MC romance book but Angel pushes her from amazing to phenomenal. Taking a leap into the paranormal MC was just what she needed to do. Bringing her wicked insight into a new genre adds even more spice to her stories.   As always Kristine Allen sweeps in to her world with just her prologue. She makes your heart hurt, […]

Review & Release: Skirt by K.L. Savage

I have to be honest I binge read this series over the course of two days. It started with me choosing the prequel, then I had to read about a certain character. I could not stop reading. K.L. Savage has created a huge world for people to get lost in. I fell down this rabbit hole but don’t try to save me. Instead join me in a dark and gritty world, where the men are fierce and the women are just as strong.   […]

Review: Hooking by Kristine Allen

Hooking is the first hockey romance by Kristine Allen. Anyone who has read Allen before knows she brings her books to life with every word she types and Hooking is no exception to that. Her first foray into a sports romance is, in my personal opinion, a huge success.  While MC favorites make brief appearances you find yourself totally entrenched into the hockey world. The chemistry between Alex and Sydney is explosive from the first meeting. Allen is able to […]
