📖Spotlight Author: Teri Kay📖

I have had the pleasure of meeting Teri Kay. Such a sweet and genuine person. Fun to hang out with and an extremely talented writer. Interviewing her was so much fun.

  1. In your everyday life you are a teacher, have you ever had a student’s parent recognize you from your books? If so how did you handle it?

No, luckily! But my co-workers know and I’ve even given my principal a book!

  1. What, for you, has been the best part of your writing career?

The best part of writing is the friends I’ve made. This is my hobby and I LOVE IT! There is no way I would have such an amazing support system without the friends I’ve made.
And I won’t lie, seeing my name on Amazon is kinda cool!

  1. How did you go from writing stories like Sinical Heart to the Cave series?

I started with Reckless Abandon and I knew that would be a longer series. SINical Heart was my second book and it was a story I felt in my heart. It’s loosely based on a “what if” situation that was close to my heart at the time.

  1. I know that you are missing book signings, what do you plan to do when you get to return to them? (Oh and I can’t wait to see you again in San Antonio)

I have 2 signings coming up this year, the Love and Devotion signing in Orange County, CA in July and Wanderlust in September. I am so looking forward to seeing all my friends. I’m hoping (fingers crossed) to have 2 new books out by then. I am working on my new Unexpected Collection.

  1. I know that husband of yours is super supportive in your writing career, who else do you have that roots you on?

Honestly, I have a great support system from all when it comes to my writing. I love listening to my husband tell people about my books at signings. Knowing how much support I have from him is so inspiring. My mom is so proud of me. I’ve had to tell her to stop giving away my books! Like, I said before, I have met some great people in this book world. And I’m ready to throw in the towel, it’s those friends and readers that keep me going.

  1. Do you believe that having close friends in the Indie community helps your writing?

I couldn’t do this without my friends. It’s my “tribe” that reminds my writing doesn’t suck and encourage me to keep going. I feel so blessed that I have so many wonderful people that have become book friends and real-life friends.

  1. What is your favorite aspect of the indie world? What is your least favorite?

My favorite aspect of the indie world is the reality of being able to do this. Never in a million years, did I ever think I would writing and publishing books. Without having kids, I have always bounced from hobby to hobby. With the indie world, I have found a home.
My least favorite aspect is my own self-doubt and comparisons to others.
  1. Who are some of the people that inspire you to continue writing?

It’s my readers who truly inspire me. When I get messages from readers about how much they enjoy my stories and finish them in one night. When they ask me when the next book is coming it makes my heart happy. Also, to see how proud my husband is making me keep going.

  1. If you could mentor a new author what would be the one thing you would teach them?

Oh goodness, I don’t know if I’m qualified to answer this. There is so much I still have to learn. I think I would tell new authors that this is tough. Learn from everyone you work with to become a better writer. Editors and proof-readers are our best friends.

  1. Are you working on a new book? If so, can you give us a small insight of it?

I am currently working on Chasin’ You. It’s a friend-to-lovers story, which is something new for me. My main character, Johana and Adam, meet in middle school but have always kept it in the friend zone. Flash forward, fifteen years later and they are both in what they think are the perfect relationships, but life keeps telling them otherwise.

Bio:

Let me start off by introducing myself. I am Teri Kay. I write what I like to call realistic romance. Love, sex and a little bit of hard truth. I now have 8 books out, five Reckless books in The Cave series, SINical Heart is my current standalone, and One-Eighty and Three- Sixty is my single parent duet.  Let me tell you a little about myself. I’ve been married for 18 years now with two cute as hell fur babies!  I teach 2nd grade in sunny southern California by day and write romance by night.

Have you heard of me?? I can’t wait to get to know all of you!!
