I am stoked to introduce you to my 80’s soul sistah and friend, who just happens to be author Sunny Mawson. I absolutely love both of her shifter series and hope you dive in and read them.

1. Having read both of your series, how did you know shifters were your niche to write?

I love reading and writing shifters. When I first started writing, it felt like everything but shifters was a struggle for me. Writing them just came naturally to me.

2. If you had to choose between your two careers as a chef and as a writer which would you give up if you had to choose and why?

I’d definitely be a full-time writer. It gives me the flexibility to spend time with my family, travel, do all sorts of fun things that chef hours don’t.

3. Is there anything you can tell us about your newest work in progress?

It’s like nothing I’ve written before. There are shifters, witches, warlocks, and Fae. I have created an entirely new world that is fascinating to me.

4. What is a quirky hobby or habit that you have?

I have to have a snack when I sit at my computer. Doesn’t really matter what it is, I just have to have one. If I start reading a series, I have to finish it before I can move on to a new one, unless of course it isn’t finished.

5. How do you celebrate finally typing “The End” on a story?

A big drink! Lol We usually celebrate with a family meal and I buy myself something I’ve been wanting.

6. What book have you written that has really took you to an emotional place?

For the Love of a Wolf and For the Love of a Bear. Those books wrecked me emotionally. FTLOAW was especially hard for me because my mother was killed in a car accident. Writing the perspective of a teenage girl who just lost her mother was probably the hardest thing I’ve ever written.

7. What is the most surprising or shocking thing you have found while doing research for a book?

I researched torture devices for Blade’s book and some of the things I learned were interesting but some were downright shocking and disturbing.

8. How did writing, editing and publishing your first book change your perception of being an author?

I made the rookie mistake of not hiring a professional editor for my first two books. I have since fixed that but it was an expensive and valuable lesson. I definitely learned that the process is longer and harder than I had originally thought. There is so much that goes into publishing than I had thought. Editors, cover designers, the hell that is stock photo searching. lol

9. When starting a new book where do you find inspiration?

This might seem a bit ridiculous but most of my stories have come to me in dreams. I have a mafia/mc book, that will probably be published next year, that came to be in a recurring dream. It wouldn’t go away until I’d written the premise down.

10. What is one thing about your career as an author would you change? How would you change it and why?

I would definitely be more disciplined in my writing so that my goal of being a full-time author could be achieved sooner. I’m working on setting hard in stone release dates and sticking to them. I want to spend more time with my family.

Sunny Mawson is a Washington based writer who was born and raised in Texas. She is married with three lovely children and one adorable granddaughter. They also have a Rottweiler named Panzer who is the best cuddler ever. Married to a retired Navy sailor, Sunny has lived all over the country, something that factors into her writing a great deal. Working as a Pastry Chef, food plays a heavy influence on her writing as well.
