2. Your parents are huge supporters of yours. What made ya’ll decide to have them come to your signings? (Side Note: I absolutely adore your momma and I hate that I never got to meet your daddy) My parents are simply the best people ever. I’m an only child, and when I was ten years old, we moved over 400 miles away from our extended family. It was just the three of us for a long time. They were both incredibly supportive when I told them I wanted to start writing. My mom is an avid reader, so it was just one more thing we could bond over. Because I hate traveling alone, I asked my mom if she wanted to go with me to my second signing. It turns out she was a fantastic help, and now I don’t think I could do it without her. She keeps me organized, and it gives us a chance to spend time together.

3. When finishing a book do you have a ritual or a special way to celebrate typing The End? I try to take a day to relax and enjoy the fact I finished a story. That is often short-lived as I start freaking out about the editing process and marketing that follow typing The End.

4. What book made you ugly cry while reading and writing it? I have two that made me cry. I fell in love with Simone when I was writing Falling for the Unexpected. She endures a lot in her twenty-two years, and some of it was heartbreaking. The second time I cried was writing a specific scene in Colt. If you’ve read that book, then you can guess which part.

What period of life do you find yourself writing about more? (Child, Teenager, Young Adult, Adult) Most of my characters so far have been in their mid to late twenties. However, I’m launching a new pen name, Raelyn D’Coursey, that will focus more on the 18-22 age group.

6. What is your favorite under appreciated novel? Probably Falling for the Unexpected. It deals with some heavy-duty themes like drug addiction and divorce, but I think it is a beautiful love story.

7. Do you try to go with the trends in the book world or do you just write what your heart wants? I watch the popular trends, but something really needs to speak to me if I’m going to write it. I know what I enjoy as a reader, and those are the same things I enjoy writing.

8. What is the hardest part of your writing process? The hardest thing for me is letting go. Sometimes I focus too much on making every sentence perfect which disrupts the flow. I need to learn to turn off the editing part of my brain and leave the perfection for later.

9. Can you tell us the hardest scene you’ve written? Was it emotionally hard or just hard finding the words? The hardest scene I’ve written is in Wolf, an upcoming book in my Desert Sinners MC series. I love his character so much, but he has some deep-rooted issues and makes poor decisions on a regular basis. There is one particular scene where his actions break my heart, but he is who he is, and I can’t change that. Emotionally it’s rough.

10. When finding names do you tend to use those of people you know, or let your muse tell you what their name is? Have you ever had a hard time when naming your characters? The names I choose are inspired by the character. I often spend a bit of time getting to know the character before deciding on their name. I do keep a running list of ones I like so I can use them in the future.
