Spotlight Author: Anna Lores

In 2019 Joe & I went to Delightfully Dirty in Dallas. There we got to meet the beautiful and talented Anna Lores. Sadly it was a short meeting (and sadly no pictures were taken). So this interview has helped me learn more about her.

Q & A

K: Does writing energize or exhaust you?

AL: Writing can both energize and exhaust me. When I’m writing a portion of a story that is emotional, I’m feeling those emotions and it can be quite draining. When something exciting happens in a storyline, then I’m pumped up and energized.

K: Do you think someone could be a writer if they don’t feel emotions strongly?

AL: Yes. Writing is a skill and those skills can be used even if a person isn’t connected emotionally to the writing or subject.  

K: How many unpublished and half-finished books do you have? Do you plan on finishing them and letting the world devour them?

AL: I have between 40-50 unpublished and partially-finished books right now. I will finish all of them, but I won’t publish them all–some stories are just for my own enjoyment 🙂

K: Do you read your book reviews? How do you deal with bad or good ones?

AL: I do read my book reviews. It’s an emotional experience regardless of whether I consider them good or bad. Although, the good ones definitely lift my spirits.

K: Do you hide any secrets in your books that only a few people will find?

AL:I do hide secrets in my published books. There are sentences and scenes within the stories I write which allude to the future of the characters. If a reader is looking for deeper meaning within the story, it’s in there. I think most people look over that stuff, but if someone reads slowly, they’ll catch things that I layered into the story just for those readers.

K: What, in your opinion, are the most important elements of good writing?

AL: A compelling story and interesting characters are a couple important elements of good writing.

K: Does one of the main characters hold a special place in your heart? If so, why?

AL: I have a main character in a book I haven’t published yet that holds a very special place in my heart. She is the first character I ever wrote about and I wrote more than 400,000 words over multiple books chronicling her life. I am too emotionally connected to her, which has stopped me from moving her series from my writing files to querying an agent, or considering self-publishing. 

K: What is one random quirk that most people don’t know about you?

AL: Hmm…A random quirk most people don’t know about me is that I’m terrified of flying.

An avid romance reader,  Anna Lores started writing steamy romance novels as a by-product of insomnia.
